Zurich: Enhanced Transit by Improved Design
By creating design standards which prioritized public transportation over private automobiles Zurich has been able to create a regional system of sustainable transportation. The city created a dynamically controlled signal and routing network where priority is placed upon buses, trams, and cyclists.
Using Zurich as an example, Memphis could implement design standards in addition to the Unified Development Code, for not only buildings and structures, but also the streetscape to allow for lane and route prioritization.
